Countryside has an on staff dog trainer!

Marie has many years of experience training dogs, and recently completed a comprehensive yearlong study in Principles of learning and behavior working with dogs. She is certified with Companion Animal Sciences Institute a school that is widely recognized to have academically advanced science based curriculum. Marie believes training can and should be a fun activity that will benefit both you and your dog. She believes a strong relationship is built with mutual respect that can be gained using scientific principles of behavior and learning based on reward and reinforcement rather than using punishment methods such as shock collars, choke chains and spray bottles. Marie will help you and your dog become successful and live together as a team. She promotes responsible dog ownership and strives to provide a professional service to her clients and the community.

Marie is a licensed Family Paws presenter, prompting safely for families with dogs, and a licensed Be a Tree presenter, teaching children how to safely act around dogs.

More about Family Paws

Family Paws™ Parent Education is the parent organization of two International licensed programs: Dogs & Storks® and the Dog and Baby Connection™ . We provide specialized programs for new and expecting families with dogs. We offer a wide range of support to families, dog professionals and childbirth professionals to support success between babies, toddlers and family dogs.

Our goal is to increase the safety of children and the success of dogs in homes with children. We seek to decrease the number of dogs surrendered to shelters due to easily preventable behavioral problems and common conflicts.

Dogs & Storks® is an international program that helps expecting families with dogs get ready for life with baby. We offer positive, practical, and fun solutions to challenges that often arise when a family with a dog adds a new baby to the household.

The Dog & Baby Connection™ is an International program that helps families with dogs and toddler-age children create safety and harmony at home. We offer positive, practical, and fun solutions to challenges that often arise in families with dogs during your child’s early development years.

More about Be A Tree

The Be a Tree program is a dog bite prevention seminar program for school age children. This program focuses on fun and interactive activities to teach children how to read dog body language and how to act safely around their own dog and strange dogs. Doggone Safe discourages presenters from bringing live dogs into the classroom.

Dog Obedience Classes

We can help you teach your dog how to succesfully live with you and your family. Some of the behaviors we work on are sit, lay down, stay, wait, walk nicely on a leash, and come.

We will help you train your dog not to jump and when it is okay to bark.

If time allows we can also teach the dogs a few tricks like roll over and shake hands.

The classes are one hour per session and there are eight sessions. Individual sessions at Countryside or at your home are also available, please call or email us for more details. The first session we do not bring the dogs as we are going over basic dog care and training information.

The supplies that are required for class are some smelly, yummy treats, a flat leash and collar, comfortable clothes and a dog with a good appetite!

All dogs are required to have Distemper, Rabies and Bordetella vaccines prior to class, unless they are too young. This protects all of the dogs present, yours and the person next to you.

We recommend these great training materials available at Dog Star Daily and training videos at Dr. Sophia Yin.

We look forward to seeing you in class!
